Samsung latest flagships Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge comes with KNOX security platform. The platform is designed by Samsung to ensure that no modifications are made to its system OS. It means rooting the device will make the security system active. Once this happens, you will lose your device warranty and will not be able to Samsung Pay. Previously, we have told you how to root Galaxy S6 and how to root Galaxy S6 Edge by using CF Auto-Root tool that triggers KNOX security. Here is a method that enables you to bypass KNOX security and root the device.
A new XDA developer idler1984 has released a utility named PingPong Root. With this utility, you can root almost all the variants of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge without tripping KNOX security.
How to root Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge:
Before you begin, you need to know that PingPong tool is supported by certain firmware versions. You need to find out the firmware version of your device. To do so, head to Settings > About device. Now, match the version with list of supported firmwares available here.
Installation of third party apps:
Make sure to enable installation of third party apps from unknown sources. To do so, head to Settings > Lock screen and security and enable the ‘Unknown Sources’ option.
Download and Install PingPong Root tool:
Click Here to download the PingPong tool. The file weighs 4 MB in size. Once downloaded, simply install the APK. You may be prompted with warnings, just continue with installation.
Launch PingPong Root tool and install SuperSU:
Now launch the PingPong tool. It will now prompt you to install SuperSU root management app from developer ChainFire. Install the app and tap on ‘Done’.
Start rooting your device:
PingPong root tool will now show two options: Get Root! and Download Data. If your firmware was listed in the ‘download data’ section, you need to download additional data and then tap ‘Get Root!’. However, if this is not the case, simply tap on Get Root! option to start the process.
Wait for few seconds, afterwards reboot:
It will take few seconds to root Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge. Don’t interact with your phone during the duration. Reboot your device once the process completes.
Update SuperSU binaries:
After the reboot, launch SuperSU app. When prompted to update binaries, tap on ‘Continue’ option. Tap on ‘Normal’ mode to begin the process. Wait for few seconds and reboot your device.
You have now successfully performed tutorial to root Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge without tripping KNOX. You can now install custom mods and extend your device functionality. If you experience any issue, turn on Airplane Mode and repeat the steps.
