[How to] Root Galaxy S6 Edge using CF Auto-Root tool and Install CWM recovery

We have just told you how to install CWM recovery and perform root on Galaxy S6. Now, it’s turn of Galaxy S6 Edge. Like Galaxy S6, S6 Edge also comes with KNOX security. Therefore, you will void the warranty and will not be able use Samsung Pay after the root. We will not be responsible for any damage to your device. However, you surely will be able to enjoy custom ROMs and features on Galaxy S6 Edge by gaining the root access. Here we are going to tell you how to install CWM recovery and root Galaxy S6 Edge.

Pre-requisites:

Before you begin, you need to consider following list of points:

  • Install USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge on your PC. [ Download Here ]
  • Enable USB Debugging mode on your device. This can be done by heading to Settings > About and tapping 7 times on build number to enable Developer’s options. Then, navigate to Developer Options to enable the USB debugging mode.
  • Back up the personal contents and files on your device. Click here to do so.
  • You should have more than 80 percent battery on your device. So that, you can carry out the process smoothly and without any interruption.

Steps to Install CWM recovery on Galaxy S6 Edge:

Here is the step-by-step guide for installing CWM on Galaxy S6 Edge:

  1. Switch off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Reboot it in Download mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power key simultaneously till a warning message appears.
  3. Now, press the Volume Up key to continue.
  4. Install ODIN tool v3.09 on your PC.
  5. Launch the ODIN tool on your PC.
  6. Connect your Galaxy S6 Edge with PC via USB cable.
  7. Wait till the ODIN tool recognizes the device and ID:Com section turns blue or yellow.
  8. Now on ODIN, click on AP button.
  9. Browse for CWM recovery file on your PC and click on ‘Start’ button.
  10. Once the installation is completed, your device will now reboot.

Now, you have successfully installed CWM recovery on your Galaxy S6 Edge. You can now enjoy custom ROMs and root access on your device.

Root Galaxy S6 Edge using ChainFire Auto-Root tool:

Here are the instructions to root Galaxy S6 Edge:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Reboot it in Download mode. To do so, simply press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power key simultaneously till a warning message appears.
  3. Now, press the Volume Up key to continue.
  4. Launch the ODIN tool on your PC.
  5. Extract the contents of CF Auto-Root tool on your PC.
  6. Connect your Galaxy S6 Edge with PC via USB cable.
  7. Wait till the ODIN tool recognizes the device and ID:Com section turns blue or yellow.
  8. Now on ODIN, click on PDA button.
  9. Browse for the zipped CF Auto-Root file on your PC.
  10. Make sure that Auto-Root and F, Reset Time are checked, click on ‘Start’ button.
  11. Once the installation is completed, your device will now reboot. The ID:Com section on the tool will turn ‘Green’ indicating that your device have been rooted. A ‘Pass’ message will also be displayed.

You have now successfully rooted Galaxy S6 Edge. If you are unable to boot in normal mode after the root, here is what to do. In this case, you need to Factory Reset your device. To do so, turn off the device. Boot the device in ‘Recovery Mode’. Select ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’ option. Confirm and reboot the device in ‘Normal Mode.
